2025 Conference Coverage In Our Dreams: Improving the Health of Patients Living with IH and Narcolepsy by Connecting with Their Hearts and Heads

When adopting a comprehensive approach to improving the health of patients with idiopathic hypersomnia (IH) or narcolepsy, it is essential for clinicians to consider the interplay between cardiometabolic (CM), neurologic, and psychiatric comorbidities. Clinicians must prioritize educating both themselves and their patients about comprehensive care, with an emphasis on how sodium, lifestyle, and healthy diets can impact the risk of comorbidities, and in turn, how treatment choices for IH and narcolepsy can affect long-term CM and psychiatric health. In this CME Outfitters Journal Club, expert faculty will guide learners through best practices for counseling patients with IH or narcolepsy on the importance of sodium reduction, selecting guideline-directed therapies for IH and narcolepsy that consider efficacy and safety in patients with psychiatric and CV/CM comorbidities, and incorporating collaborative care strategies that optimize the management of CV/CM and psychiatric comorbidities in patients with IH and narcolepsy. The activity will also provide timely analysis and interpretation of newly released data from key conferences, World Sleep 2025 and CHEST 2025, translating these findings into practical clinical applications for a multidisciplinary care team.
