Pancreatobiliary Cytology: Applications of Molecular Testing

This presentation will start by introducing the differential diagnosis of solid and cystic pancreatic lesions. It will then discuss the diagnostic features/elements (cytomorphology and ancillary testing), with a focus on entities where molecular testing serves practical diagnostic or prognostic utility. Afterwards, bile duct brushing specimens and the importance of molecular texting in this context will be discussed. A brief review of the literature on the types of molecular testing, including single-gene sequencing, next-generation sequencing, and fluorescence in situ hybridization will be provided for different specimen types.
