Simplifying Pediatric AD Management: A Closer Look at Novel Targeted Topical Approaches

Pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) is driven by type 2 inflammation and PDE4 enzyme overexpression. While topical corticosteroids are traditional first-line treatments, their use is hampered by safety concerns. Fear of adverse events, combined with the burden of twice-daily regimens, often trigger nonadherence and a cycle of reactive flaring, negatively impacting long-term quality of life. To help clinicians overcome these hurdles and adopt a more proactive management style, this activity provides a comprehensive framework for topical steroid stewardship. To facilitate the application of knowledge to practice, the program utilizes interactive case studies that guide learners through an examination of the mechanism of nonsteroidal PDE4 inhibitors, interpreting pivotal clinical trial data, and implementing proactive maintenance strategies. Participants will acquire practical skills to overcome caregiver hesitation, simplify dosing, and optimize patient outcomes.
