The proposed session is an AAO-HNS Thyroid Cancer Tumor Board. The moderators will present cases which highlight challenges and advances in thyroid cancer management. The expert panel will be asked to share their experience and strategies for the work-up and management of varied clinical entities, including low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer, advanced thyroid cancer, oncocytic carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma. This case-based tumor board session will address state-of-the-art contemporary management of thyroid cancer from diagnosis to preoperative evaluation and surgical management. The diagnostic and prognostic relevance of molecular analysis will be discussed, especially as it relates to extent of surgery. Use of radiofrequency ablation to treat thyroid cancer will be deliberated. The complex task of surgically managing the invaded recurrent laryngeal nerve will be addressed. Finally, discussion will cover the use of neoadjuvant targeted therapy in management of advanced thyroid cancer, a promising new treatment paradigm.
