Handoff communications in anesthesia care are prone to errors because of the frequency of patient care transfers. There are currently no standardized checklist or mnemonics that are widely used for anesthesia handoffs. Therefore the handoffs in anesthesiology are variable and may lead to errors, complications and even deaths. This activity will identify the parameters important for safe anesthesia handoffs and provide a variety of checklists and mnemonics that can be implemented for effective handoff communications.
