Antithrombotic Strategies for Secondary Stroke Prevention: A Multidisciplinary Module

PROGRAM OVERVIEW This education is focused on educating the multidisciplinary team caring for patients at risk for secondary stroke, supporting the unique roles of hematologists, neurologists, and cardiologists in the era of FXI/FXIa inhibitor therapies. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to: Articulate the scientific basis for combining Factor XIa inhibition with antiplatelet therapy in the context of secondary stroke prevention. Distinguish how Factor XIa inhibition selectively disrupts pathological thrombosis while preserving hemostasis compared with conventional antithrombotic approaches. Recognize key efficacy and safety outcomes from Phase III clinical trials of Factor XIa inhibitors in secondary stroke prevention. Assess the generalizability of Factor XIa inhibitors clinical trial populations to patients encountered in routine clinical practice. Envision the evolving role of hematologists in Factor XIa inhibitors in secondary stroke prevention algorithms. Evaluate multidisciplinary best practices that optimize secondary stroke prevention outcomes and support effective cross-specialty communication among hematology, stroke neurology, and cardiology.
