Clinical Deterioration: Early Recognition and Escalation

Clinical deterioration in hospitalized patients is often preceded by hours of subtle, documented warning signs that go unrecognized or unaddressed. This course equips nurses with the physiological knowledge, validated assessment tools, and structured escalation frameworks needed to close the recognition-to-action gap at the bedside. Learners will apply the NEWS2 early warning scoring system to realistic patient scenarios, identify non-obvious indicators of deterioration across body systems, and practice SBAR-based escalation communication. The course is designed for RNs and LPN/LVNs working in acute care, med-surg, telemetry, or emergency settings.
