This controlled substance prescribing course examines the intersection of regulatory compliance, clinical decision-making, and public health in the context of the ongoing drug misuse epidemic. Learners will analyze overdose trends, evaluate federal and state regulations including the Controlled Substances Act and SUPPORT Act, and apply CDC guideline aligned opioid prescribing strategies. The course emphasizes practical use of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs), identification of red flags for misuse and diversion, and navigation of addiction treatment laws and resources. Through real-world case studies and true crime examples, participants will strengthen their ability to make safe, ethical, and patient-centered prescribing decisions while addressing stigma and promoting equitable care across diverse populations.
