Eosinophilic esophagitis, gastrointestinal reflux, dysmotility and other gastrointestinal (GI) disorders have extra-esophageal manifestations that mimic or exacerbated common otolaryngologic disorders. Otolaryngologic manifestations of GI disorders include rhinitis, sinusitis, globus, dysphonia, dysphagia, stridor, and lower airway infections. Improper or delayed recognition and treatment can result in disease progression, post operative complications and patient dissatisfaction. Recognizing, differentiating and treating these disorders appropriately and in a timely manner is important for both pediatric and general otolaryngologists as well as laryngologists.
