Evolving Treatment Approaches to IgAN

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerular disease worldwide and a leading cause of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure. Despite recent advances in understanding its complex pathogenesis and emerging targeted therapies, significant gaps persist in healthcare professionals knowledge of IgAN and their appreciation of the profound effects this chronic disease has on patient quality of life. At the same time, the emerging IgAN treatment landscape has exploded, posing immediate knowledge gaps for clinicians as data from clinical trials on novel therapies becomes available. Moreover, the newly published KDIGO 2025 clinical practice guideline for the management of IgAN incorporates shifting treatment paradigms and new recommendations based on recent evidence from randomized controlled trials. These recommendations underscore the importance of early and accurate diagnosis, goal-setting in the management of proteinuria and disease progression, and use of recently approved therapies. A focused CME program is needed to equip healthcare providers with the latest evidence-based recommendations and emerging treatments to optimize patient well-being and outcomes and address the evolving therapeutic landscape for this progressive kidney disease.
