From Hole to Whole: Approaches and Outcomes for Nasal Septal Perforation Management (2024 AMW)

Nasal septal perforation is a challenging condition that can pose a significant quality-of-life impact to patients. Based on our institutional experience of performing nearly 500 nasal septal perforation repairs, our aim is to comprehensively discuss the evaluation and management of nasal septal perforations. Technical pearls of various management approaches with a special emphasis on surgical repair using nasal mucosal flaps will be discussed. The goals of this talk are as follows:1) Review contemporary approaches for assessing nasal septal perforations, incorporating patient-reported outcome measures (NOSE-Perf score) and nasal septal perforation endoscopy. 2) Discuss effective management strategies and technical pearls for nasal septal perforation repair, with a particular focus on the intricacies of repair using nasal mucosal flaps. 3) Analyze patient-reported outcomes in nasal septal perforation repair, offering insights into the real-world impact, patient counseling, and success of repair interventions.
