From the Immunocompetent to Immunocompromised Are Your Patients Protected from Shingles

For many years, immunocompromised adults could not receive shingles vaccination because the live-attenuated vaccine (discontinued in the US in 2020) was contraindicated in this population. This changed with the availability of the recombinant vaccine. This CME will discuss the increased risk of shingles in immunocompromised individuals and the ACIP recommendations on the use of recombinant shingles vaccine in this population. The types of immunocompromising conditions and timing of vaccination will also be addressed.
