GLP-1 RAs Unlocked: Transforming T2D Care from Pathology to Practice

GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have become a cornerstone of type 2 diabetes (T2D) treatment, with strong endorsements from the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. Despite these clear guidelines, GLP-1 RAs remain significantly underutilized, as many clinicians still lack a deep understanding of how they work or their potentially disease modifying impact on comorbid conditions commonly associated with T2D. GLP-1 RAs offer far more than blood sugar control and weight management: they deliver powerful protection for the heart, kidneys, and other key organ systems in the management of T2D. Expert-led, targeted education that demystifies the mechanisms of GLP-1 RAs for clinicians and multidisciplinary teams will bring their proven benefits to the forefront of clinical decision-making and improve the trajectory of care for patients with T2D. In the second activity of this CME Outfitters Snack series, expert faculty will differentiate current and emerging GLP-1 RA therapies based on their dosing schedules, administration methods, and glycemic and extra-glycemic benefits. Faculty will identify the mechanisms of action (MOAs) of GLP-1 RAs including their effects on key organ systems, including the pancreas, liver, brain, kidneys, and CV system.
