Interventional Endoscopy Ultrasound (EUS)

This two-day course has been developed to provide a comprehensive overview of interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Participants will be exposed to existing and emerging technologies, technical details, diagnostic utility, therapeutic options, and review of various clinical cases in the care of patients with gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal disorders. Participants will have dedicated time through intensive hands-on experience, allowing attendees to perform many of the procedures encountered in everyday practice. This program will help advanced GI fellows supplement their training with origins of EUS to discussing and demonstrating the fine points of the procedure to hands-on practice. If you are just beginning your practice with therapeutic EUS or a seasoned clinician who needs a refresher, this course is designed for you. Key Applications of Interventional EUS Pancreatic Fluid Drainage: EUS-guided drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis using stents, including Lumen-Apposing Metal Stents (LAMS). Biliary and Gallbladder Drainage: EUS-guided bile duct access (choledochoduodenostomy, hepaticogastrostomy) and gallbladder drainage when conventional ERCP fails. Tumor Treatment (Ablation/Injection): Targeted injection of antitumor agents or fine-needle injection (FNI) for pancreatic cancer and neurolysis for pain control. Vascular Intervention: EUS-guided coil and glue injection for gastric varices. Gastrojejunostomy: Creating a connection between the stomach and small bowel to bypass obstructions. Tissue Acquisition: Advanced, targeted biopsies. Key Advantages Minimally Invasive: Offers a, often outpatient, alternative to surgical procedures. High Precision: Real-time imaging allows for precise targeting of lesions and structures near the gastrointestinal tract. Reduced Complications: Generally associated with fewer risks than traditional surgery. Interventional EUS is rapidly expanding, with new devices and techniques allowing for more complex therapeutic procedures, increasingly acting as a bridge between endoscopy and interventional radiology.
