Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) achieves high cure rates for many skin cancers while maximizing tissue preservation, yet postoperative scarring may lead to aesthetic and functional concerns that affect patients’ quality of life. Effective scar revision requires an understanding of wound healing, scar formation, and the appropriate selection of surgical and nonsurgical interventions based on scar characteristics and patient goals. This course reviews common MMS scar complications and deformities, indications for scar revision, and evidence-based treatment options, including surgical revision, corticosteroids, radiation therapy, laser therapy, microneedling, and dermabrasion. Participants learn to evaluate postoperative scars, select appropriate revision techniques, recognize potential complications, and counsel patients regarding expected outcomes and treatment limitations. Collaboration among clinicians, dermatologic surgeons, plastic surgeons, dermatologists, nursing professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and other interprofessional team members enhances treatment planning, optimizes functional and cosmetic outcomes, minimizes complications, and improves patient satisfaction.
