The provision of optimal care for patients with FLT3-mutated AML is an increasingly complex process, particularly for community oncology clinicians. Compared with healthcare providers working in specialized, academic centers, these care providers have less extensive experience treating this rarer hematologic malignancy. Without targeted educational interventions, community oncology clinicians may struggle to integrate newer, FLT3 inhibitors appropriately into real-world settings and align their practices with their counterparts at dedicated, AML treatment centers. By engaging in a combination of small-group and case-based education, these healthcare providers can improve their ability to perform molecular testing, differentiate among approved FLT3 inhibitors, and modify treatment strategies in response to treatment-related adverse events. These initiatives can additionally enhance community oncologists ability to deliver supportive care and identify patients who may require a transfer to academic centers for further management. Ultimately, by improving collaboration between members of the multidisciplinary team and across healthcare systems, community oncologists can ensure that patients with FLT3-mutated AML receive convenient, high-quality care consistent with clinical practice guidelines and expert practice.
