Individuals from underserved communities often face roadblocks to clinical trial participation, including geographic limitations, socioeconomic barriers, restrictive eligibility criteria, and systemic inequities. These challenges are compounded by unconscious bias among health care professionals (HCPs), which can shut down vital conversations before they begin. Clinical trials subsequently lack diversity and produce data that does not reflect real-world populations, leading to care that leaves underserved communities behind. HCPs and multidisciplinary care teams must not only be equipped to navigate clinical trial discussions, but to engage compassionately with patients: dispelling myths, communicating through low health literacy, and addressing internal biases. With focused HCP education, compassion and cultural awareness can improve clinical trial access and outcomes for everyone. In this CME Outfitters recorded webcast, expert faculty will examine socioeconomic, geographic, and systemic factors that contribute to disparities in clinical trial access, particularly in underserved or community-based settings. Faculty will help learners identify interprofessional strategies, including use of culturally responsive communication, patient navigators, and advocacy partnerships, to engage underrepresented patients in clinical trial discussions and enrollment.
