Prenatal Opioid and Hepatitis C Co-Exposure: Neonatal and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Describe neonatal health risks linked to prenatal opioid exposure (POE) and maternal hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection 2. Appreciate the application cord blood derived microglia-like cells (iMGL) as a patient-specific model for evaluating fetal neurodevelopment 3. Explain the role of microglia in fetal brain development and mechanisms by which in utero opioid and HCV exposure alters microglial structure and function. 4. Link changes in microglia structure and function with observed deficits in infant cognitive, motor, or language development. 5. Recognize policies or clinical interventions needed to mitigate neurodevelopmental risks in opioid- and HCV-exposed newborns.
