Social Isolation in Older Adults: Mortality, Cardiovascular, and Cognitive Risks

The goal of this activity is for learners, as members of the healthcare team, to improve their ability to recognize the clinical consequences of social isolation in older adults including increased risks of all-cause mortality, cognitive decline, and cardiovascular disease and to apply validated screening tools for early identification, understanding that preventing escalation of isolation yields greater clinical benefit than attempting to reverse established isolation.
