Strategies to Close Gaps in Herpes Zoster Vaccination

Despite the availability of a safe and effective recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) for herpes zoster (HZ), vaccination uptake and series completion remain insufficient, leaving many at-risk individuals particularly older adults, immunocompromised patients, and underserved populations vulnerable to preventable disease and its impact on quality of life. Persistent gaps in vaccination reflect missed clinical opportunities, disparities in access and care, limited integration of current guideline recommendations into practice, and ongoing patient-level barriers such as mistrust, cost concerns, and misconceptions about vaccine safety and necessity. These challenges highlight a critical need for targeted, interprofessional education that supports health care professionals in identifying eligible patients, applying evidence-based recommendations, improving workflow coordination, and engaging in effective, empathetic communication to promote vaccine confidence and completion. In this AI-enabled[LZ1.1][SMP1.2][SMP1.3][1.4] clinical simulation utilizing patient case scenarios, expert faculty will discuss the importance of HZ vaccination across diverse populations, including the latest evidence on vaccine safety, efficacy, and administration schedules. Participants will explore strategies to strengthen vaccine series completion through coordinated workflow decision-making and patient communication approaches that address barriers.
