Survivorship in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: The Importance of Comprehensive Otolaryngologic Care (2025 AMW)

The treatment of primary nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) involves radiotherapy +/- chemotherapy, a treatment paradigm that is associated with both acute and late toxicities. Typically affecting young patients, these devastating, potentially life-long sequelae, severely affect the quality of life and even the survival of NPC patients, with the Otolaryngologist playing an integral role in recognizing, treating and the long term management of NPC patients. We will evaluate NPC patient survivorship in the context of persistent/recurrent NPC, second primary malignancies, otologic and rhinologic complications and for example, dysphagia, as seen by the Otolaryngologist in a general practice.
