IgA Vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein Purpura)

Immunoglobulin A vasculitis is an immune-mediated small-vessel vasculitis that most often affects children but can occur in adolescents and adults. Clinical manifestations may include palpable purpura, arthralgia, gastrointestinal tract symptoms, renal involvement, and rare central nervous system or pulmonary complications. The existing practice gap is inconsistent recognition, risk assessment, monitoring, and treatment of immunoglobulin A vasculitis, particularly when patients present with nonspecific symptoms before rash development or show evidence of nephritis. This educational activity addresses that gap by reviewing pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria, differential diagnosis, renal monitoring, treatment strategies, complication prevention, and interprofessional care coordination. Participants will gain actionable skills to improve diagnostic accuracy, identify renal and gastrointestinal complications, select appropriate supportive and immunomodulatory treatments, and coordinate timely referrals to nephrology, radiology, surgery, pharmacy, and other team members.
