Addressing Unmet Needs in Sickle Cell Disease: Evaluating the Potential for Emerging Treatments to Achieve Positive Patient Outcomes

Sickle cell disease (SCD) remains a complex, multisystem disorder with persistent gaps in care despite advances that have extended life expectancy. This interactive CME program brings together leading hematology experts and patient voices to explore how clinicians can go beyond managing vaso-occlusive crises to address the full burden of SCD including chronic anemia, organ damage, and quality-of-life challenges. Through expert-led presentations, dynamic roundtable discussions, and a patient interview, participants will gain insight into the evolving SCD landscape, from current standards of care to the promise and limitations of gene therapy. The program also highlights emerging investigational strategies such as pyruvate kinase activation, fetal hemoglobin induction, and novel polymerization inhibitors that may redefine treatment goals and improve outcomes for individuals living with SCD.
