Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a rare form of chronic pancreatitis characterized by immune-mediated inflammation of the pancreas. The condition is often misdiagnosed due to its nonspecific symptoms, including abdominal pain, obstructive jaundice, and radiographic findings that mimic pancreatic malignancy. Two primary subtypes are recognized: type 1 AIP, associated with immunoglobulin G4 related disease and systemic involvement, and type 2 AIP, more commonly linked to inflammatory bowel disease and typically lacking extrapancreatic manifestations. A third form, induced by immune checkpoint inhibitors, has emerged as an adverse effect of cancer immunotherapy. Without appropriate management, AIP can lead to endocrine and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, biliary complications, and irreversible fibrosis. Early diagnosis and differentiation from malignancy are critical for avoiding unnecessary surgery and improving outcomes. This continuing education activity enables clinicians to recognize AIP’s clinical features, diagnostic criteria, and therapeutic options. Participants examine corticosteroid therapy’s role, immunosuppressive agents’ indications, and the importance of long-term monitoring to prevent relapse. The activity highlights the importance of interprofessional collaboration in enhancing patient care. Radiologists assist in early detection and monitoring; gastroenterologists perform diagnostic endoscopies and manage treatments; rheumatologists evaluate concurrent autoimmune diseases; and nurses support patient education, adherence, and monitoring for adverse effects. Coordinated care among team members improves diagnostic accuracy, facilitates timely therapy, and enhances patient quality of life.
