Breastfeeding has significant benefits for both mother and child, and breastfeeding initiation rates in the United States have been rising in recent years. However, many mothers do not achieve their breastfeeding goals, with only 25% breastfeeding exclusively at 6 months. Obstetrician-gynecologists are well positioned to support their patients in meeting breastfeeding goals when they can identify opportunities to improve maternity care practices and community support. This module is intended to educate the clinician on identifying ways to incorporate breastfeeding support into prenatal and maternity care. Healthcare professionals who complete this module will have improved awareness of current data and trends around breastfeeding along with practical strategies to encourage and support their breastfeeding patients.
