Cardiomegaly

Cardiomegaly is a clinical finding that reflects enlargement of the heart resulting from a broad range of underlying cardiovascular conditions and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality when unrecognized or inadequately treated. This activity reviews the etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic evaluation, and evidence-based management of cardiomegaly. Participants learn to recognize risk factors and presenting features, interpret imaging findings, including cardiothoracic ratio on chest radiography and computed tomography, evaluate underlying causes, and develop appropriate treatment strategies based on the underlying disease process. Emphasis is placed on timely diagnosis, management of associated cardiovascular disorders, prevention of complications, and ongoing patient monitoring. Collaboration among clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, cardiologists, radiologists, and other interprofessional healthcare professionals enhances diagnostic accuracy, facilitates coordinated care, strengthens patient education, improves adherence to evidence-based management, and optimizes patient outcomes.
