Empowering Women Physicians

Physician burnout has reached crisis levels, with approximately half of all physicians experiencing burnout symptoms. Women physicians face particularly high rates of burnout, depression, and anxiety exceeding those of their male counterparts while simultaneously managing objectively higher workloads (including more patient and staff messages) and facing persistent pay inequity for equivalent work. The culture of medicine often promotes self-sacrifice and perpetuates learned helplessness, leading many physicians to internalize systemic failures as personal inadequacy. Multiple randomized controlled trials demonstrate that coaching is an effective, evidence-based intervention to reduce burnout and improve quality of life. Program data shows measurable decreases in burnout, increases in professional fulfillment, and improved self-compassion among participants. Despite high demand evidenced by hundreds of physicians participating in coaching programs and thousands attending related virtual events physicians lack accessible opportunities to learn and apply these evidence-based coaching skills themselves, representing a critical gap in physician wellness resources.
