Endometrial Polyp

Endometrial polyps are common localized overgrowths of endometrial glands, stroma, and blood vessels that arise within the uterine cavity and frequently present during the reproductive and perimenopausal years. This course reviews the clinically significant risk of premalignant or malignant transformation and the need for careful evaluation in high-risk individuals, including postmenopausal women, obesity, unopposed estrogen exposure, tamoxifen therapy, or abnormal uterine bleeding, though most polyps are benign. Participants will also gain an understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, risk stratification, and the strengths and limitations of diagnostic modalities, including transvaginal ultrasound, saline infusion sonography, hysteroscopy, and endometrial sampling of endometrial polyps. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance the learner’s competence in identifying endometrial polyps, performing the recommended evaluation, applying evidence-based management of endometrial polyps, including surveillance, hysteroscopic polypectomy, and indications for referral, and implementing an appropriate interprofessional approach when managing this condition to optimize outcomes through timely intervention when malignancy or infertility concerns are present.
