Gerstmann Syndrome

Gerstmann syndrome is a rare neurological disorder characterized by digit agnosia, acalculia, agraphia, and left-right disorientation. The syndrome may result from lesions involving the dominant parietal lobe and adjacent networks, and incomplete presentations can complicate recognition. Clinicians may not consistently identify the symptom pattern, distinguish it from mimicking conditions, or select appropriate neuroimaging and referrals. This continuing medical education activity reviews the clinical features, diagnostic evaluation, differential diagnosis, reversible causes, rehabilitation strategies, and role of interprofessional care. Participants will strengthen their ability to recognize complete and partial presentations, interpret relevant imaging findings, identify treatable etiologies, coordinate timely specialty consultation, and support rehabilitation planning. Improved diagnostic reasoning and coordinated care may reduce treatment delays and improve functional outcomes and quality of life.
