GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) have redefined the standard of care for type 2 diabetes (T2D), especially in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), obesity, or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease/metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASLD/MASH). These innovative therapies offer proven, multi-organ benefits that go far beyond glucose control. Despite their powerful potential, concerns around safety, tolerability, and side effects persist that lead to hesitation, underutilization, or premature therapy discontinuation. Misconceptions around who should receive GLP-1 RAs, how to stratify risk, or how to optimize dosing strategies remain barriers to care. Clinicians and multidisciplinary care teams need targeted education that demystifies the safety profile of GLP-1 RAs and builds confidence for effective, patient-centered counseling so that patients with T2D can reap the full rewards of these life-changing therapies. In the fifth activity of this CME Outfitters Snack series, expert faculty will assess dosing strategies and escalation best practices to optimize patient outcomes and foster therapy adherence. Faculty will model development of patient-centered counseling strategies that address concerns or misconceptions of GLP-1 RA therapies, including evidence-based benefits.
