Granulomatous Uveitis

Granulomatous uveitis is an inflammatory ocular pattern associated with infectious, inflammatory, genetic, drug-induced, postoperative, malignant, and idiopathic causes. Timely recognition is clinically important because delayed diagnosis or inappropriate treatment may lead to irreversible vision loss, ocular complications, or worsening of underlying infection. A gap exists in clinician competence when distinguishing granulomatous uveitis from other causes of red eye, selecting appropriate diagnostic testing, excluding infectious etiologies before immunosuppression, and coordinating long-term treatment. This activity addresses that gap by reviewing clinical features, systemic associations, multimodal imaging, laboratory evaluation, evidence-based treatment strategies, and strategies for preventing complications. Participants will gain practical skills to improve diagnostic accuracy, apply corticosteroid-sparing strategies, recognize masquerade syndromes, monitor treatment-related adverse effects, and strengthen interprofessional collaboration among ophthalmology, rheumatology, infectious disease, pulmonology, nephrology, nursing, and pharmacy teams.
