HIV in Primary Care Workshop

At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to: 1. Interpret HIV screening and confirmatory test results, identifying acute versus chronic infection, 2. Initiate same-day ART for newly diagnosed HIV patients using guideline-based regimens, 3. Select appropriate ART regimens for patients with renal impairment or co-infection with hepatitis B, 4. Recognize and respond to ART resistance patterns based on genotype interpretation, 5. Apply CD4-based thresholds to start or discontinue opportunistic infection prophylaxis, 6. Determine appropriate timing of ART initiation in patients with advanced disease or suspected OIs to prevent IRIS, 7. Manage chronic comorbidities such as cardiovascular and metabolic disease in patients with HIV, 8. Identify key features of HIV-related co-infections such as neurosyphilis and integrate their treatment into the HIV care plan, 9. Prescribe and monitor PrEP appropriately in at-risk patients, interpreting labs and follow-up schedules, 10. Diagnose AIDS-defining illnesses and initiate empiric therapy and ART promptly in the primary care setting.
