Interprofessional Care of Patients with Long-Chain Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders

Advances in treatment, notably nutritional supplementation with odd-carbon medium-chain triglycerides, have improved the quality of life of persons with long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAODs). However, the complexity and multisystem impact of these rare metabolic conditions requires a large, interprofessional, multidisciplinary care team to coordinate care over the lifespan. In addition to highlighting key concepts in patient management, this activity provides an overview of the principles of interprofessional collaboration and describes recommended roles for each member of the interprofessional care team.
