Making Sense of PVFMD/VCD/EILO: A Case-based Approach (2025 AMW)

Otolaryngologists are often first-line evaluators of breathing and airway-related issues in patients. Dyspnea and stridor may result from a variety of causes, and the importance of the otolaryngologists role in performing upper airway evaluation cannot be overemphasized. The clinical entities of paradoxical vocal fold motion disorder (PVFMD), vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), and exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) are both commonly encountered and yet often misunderstood reasons for patients dyspnea complaints. This course provides a multi-disciplinary case-based approach to these entities, including perspective from both laryngology and speech-language pathology experts.
