Meaning-centered psychotherapy (MCP) is a brief, structured, existentially oriented intervention developed to support patients with advanced cancer in maintaining purpose and spiritual well-being, with expanding application across palliative and psychiatric care. This course reviews the principles of MCP, grounded in Viktor Frankl s logotherapy and existential psychotherapy, which targets disruptions in meaning that contribute to demoralization, identity loss, and existential distress in serious illness, as well as session structure involving exploring historical, creative, experiential, and attitudinal sources of meaning to foster adaptive coping, resilience, and improved quality of life. Participants will also gain an understanding of MCP s theoretical foundations, clinical indications, and evidence base, therapeutic techniques, and assessment of existential distress. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance the learner’s competence in integrating meaning-centered approaches, improving communication, addressing psychological and spiritual dimensions of disease, and implementing an appropriate interprofessional approach when treating patients with advanced or life-limiting conditions.
