Medication Treatment, Behavioral Health, and Adjunctive Manual Therapy Across the Lifespan

Substance use disorders (SUDs) are chronic, treatable conditions that require evidence-based treatment, ongoing follow-up, and coordinated, patient-centered care. This course prepares physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, and other clinicians to contribute within their professional roles through screening, safety assessment, patient and family education, medication-related support, harm reduction, monitoring, referral, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Learners will explore the core components of SUD care, including medication treatment, behavioral health services, overdose prevention, withdrawal assessment, and management of co-occurring conditions. The course also examines manual therapy as an optional adjunct for selected pain, mobility, or comfort concerns clarifying its limited or emerging evidence in other areas and reinforcing that it does not replace established treatment, naloxone and overdose prevention, withdrawal management, or emergency care.
