Meniere Disease

Ménière disease is a chronic inner ear disorder characterized by episodic vertigo, fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, and aural fullness that can substantially impair quality of life. Thought to result from excess endolymphatic fluid within the cochlea and vestibular system, the condition often presents diagnostic challenges because its symptoms overlap with those of other vestibular and auditory disorders. This course reviews the pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, and management of Ménière disease. Participants learn to apply current diagnostic standards, distinguish probable from definite disease, evaluate alternative etiologies, and implement evidence-based treatment strategies, including lifestyle modifications, pharmacologic therapy, and procedural or surgical interventions when appropriate. Emphasis is placed on patient counseling, symptom monitoring, and long-term disease management. Collaboration among clinicians, audiologists, otolaryngologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals enhances diagnostic accuracy, promotes coordinated care, improves symptom control, and supports better patient outcomes through comprehensive interprofessional management of Ménière disease.
