Pancreatic Pseudocyst

Pancreatic pseudocysts are well-circumscribed, encapsulated collections of enzyme-rich fluid that most commonly develop after acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, or pancreatic trauma. Although many pseudocysts resolve with conservative care, accurate diagnosis remains clinically important because these lesions must be distinguished from walled-off pancreatic necrosis, cystic neoplasms, and other causes of abdominal symptoms. A persistent practice gap exists in the timely recognition, evaluation, and management of pancreatic pseudocysts, particularly in differentiating uncomplicated lesions from those requiring intervention for infection, hemorrhage, obstruction, or rupture. This activity addresses that gap by reviewing the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, imaging evaluation, differential diagnosis, conservative monitoring, and indications for endoscopic, percutaneous, or surgical treatment. Participants are expected to gain improved diagnostic accuracy, evidence-based management strategies, better risk assessment for complications, and stronger interdisciplinary coordination to support safe, patient-centered care.
