Pineal Gland Cancer

Pineal region tumors are rare lesions, representing about 1% of intracranial tumors in adults and up to 8% in children. The diversity of these tumors reflects the variety of cell types within the pineal gland and the numerous structures located nearby. These tumors may originate from the pineal parenchyma, represent germ cell neoplasms, arise from adjacent tissues, or develop as metastases from distant sites. Given their location, they frequently present with obstructive hydrocephalus or dorsal midbrain compression, requiring timely recognition and management. This activity provides a comprehensive review of the evaluation, classification, and management of pineal gland tumors. Learners explore diagnostic strategies, treatment algorithms, and prognostic factors, while also gaining insight into the critical role of the interprofessional team, including clinicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, and allied specialists, in optimizing patient-centered care, improving safety, and enhancing outcomes for individuals with these rare intracranial tumors.
