Presbyopia

Presbyopia is a common, age-related condition that progressively reduces the eye’s ability to focus on close objects, affecting nearly all adults older than 40. As global demographics evolve towards an aging population, the prevalence of presbyopia and its effects on the quality of life and visual function are becoming progressively substantial. This activity provides a comprehensive review of the etiology, clinical manifestations, and advancing therapeutic approaches for presbyopia. In addition, it offers evidence-based insights into the anatomical and physiological changes of the aging eye, accompanied by a summary of diagnostic methods and a comprehensive range of both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, including corrective lenses, pharmacological agents, and lens-based interventions. The activity also examines contemporary technical advancements in intraocular lens design and refractive surgical treatments. The interprofessional healthcare team, comprising optometrists, ophthalmologists, primary care physicians, and nurses, can enhance their clinical competence in recognizing and addressing presbyopia among various patient demographics. This collaborative approach is crucial for delivering patient-centered care and enhancing visual outcomes. Effective communication, individualized treatment planning, and the integration of emerging therapies into clinical practice are key responsibilities for healthcare providers
