This presentation will review the challenges of prescribing potentially abused or misused somatic and psychotropic medications in the correctional setting. The speaker will identify many of these agents through reports in the medical and psychiatric literature, discuss the characteristics and clinical presentations of incarcerated patients seeking these agents, offer guidance on the assessment and management of these patients, and outline the appropriate but usually limited use of such medications.
