Quiet Your Inner Critic: A Self-Trust Mini-Course for Women in Medicine

Negative internal self-talk, often described as self-criticism or impostor phenomenon, is highly prevalent among clinicians and is associated with burnout, psychological distress, and reduced professional well-being. Despite growing evidence demonstrating the impact of these internal cognitive patterns on clinician health and performance – and evidence that targeted interventions can reduce their severity – most healthcare education does not address how to recognise or work with them. As a result, many clinicians normalise harsh self-judgment as professionalism or motivation and lack the practical skills to intervene early. This activity addresses this documented educational and practice gap by providing clinicians with evidence-informed, skills-based strategies to identify and respond to negative internal self-talk in daily clinical and professional contexts.
