Vibrio parahaemolyticus Infection

Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection can cause several clinical syndromes, including gastroenteritis, wound infections, and, in severe cases, sepsis. This organism is a common cause of bacterial gastroenteritis in Asia, particularly Japan. Although V parahaemolyticus infection remains relatively uncommon in the United States, outbreaks have increased. This activity reviews the evaluation and treatment of patients with V parahaemolyticus infection and highlights the role of the interprofessional healthcare team in improving patient outcomes.
