Warty Dyskeratoma

Warty dyskeratoma is a rare, benign epidermal proliferation, often presenting as a solitary, umbilicated papulonodular lesion with a central keratotic plug. Despite its name, this lesion is not associated with human papillomavirus (HPV). Histologically, warty dyskeratoma is considered a follicular neoplasm, sometimes referred to as “follicular dyskeratoma.” The condition predominantly affects sun-exposed areas, particularly the head and neck, though it can also appear on mucosal surfaces, nails, and genitalia. This course explores the complexities surrounding this dermatological phenomenon, including the current diagnostic challenges and elusive pathophysiology, exploring the suspected role of ultraviolet radiation, autoimmunity, and trauma. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance the learner’s competence in identifying warty dyskeratomas and differentiating them from conditions with similar clinical features, performing the recommended evaluation, and implementing an appropriate interprofessional approach when managing this condition.
