Rethinking Sexual Health as Sexual Wellbeing

Sexual health and wellbeing in midlife and menopausal women are often overlooked in clinical practice, despite research showing that 50 80% of women in this stage experience changes in sexual function, including decreased libido, dyspareunia, vaginal dryness, and reduced satisfaction. Healthcare providers frequently avoid initiating discussions due to discomfort, time constraints, or lack of training, while patients may hesitate to raise concerns. Current guidelines from NAMS, ISSWSH, and other professional organizations emphasize proactive assessment and holistic care, yet many clinicians receive minimal education in this area. This activity addresses these gaps by equipping healthcare professionals with communication strategies, practical frameworks, and evidence-based interventions to confidently and compassionately address sexual wellbeing, encompassing intimacy, body image, relationships, and overall sexual satisfaction in midlife care.
