Texas Center for Patient Safety: 2026-2028 Bridging Gaps in Maternal Safety: OB Emergency Simulation Training for Rural Emergency Departments

This session highlights an innovative simulation-based training program designed to prepare rural emergency department teams for obstetric crises such as postpartum hemorrhage, severe hypertension, and shoulder dystocia. With many rural hospitals no longer offering obstetric services, these emergencies often present first in the ED, where staff may have limited obstetric experience. Participants will learn how tailored simulation strengthens teamwork, communication, and protocol adherence, ultimately improving maternal safety and reducing preventable harm in resource limited settings.
