Inborn errors of metabolism are inherited disorders that disrupt metabolic pathways and may present with acute decompensation, progressive multisystem disease, or neuropsychiatric symptoms across the lifespan. Delayed recognition remains a clinically important gap because nonspecific presentations can resemble common pediatric emergencies, leading to missed diagnoses, preventable complications, and avoidable mortality. This activity reviews age-specific clinical clues, initial laboratory evaluation, advanced diagnostic testing, acute stabilization, long-term treatment strategies, and complication prevention. Participants will strengthen their ability to identify high-risk presentations, interpret metabolic patterns, initiate timely emergency measures, and select appropriate confirmatory testing. The activity also emphasizes coordinated interprofessional care, including dietary treatment, genetic counseling, emergency planning, and specialty collaboration, to improve patient-centered outcomes, reduce recurrent metabolic crises, and support long-term quality of life.
