Hereditary Fructose Intolerance

This continuing education activity provides clinicians with a comprehensive review of hereditary fructose intolerance, a rare but potentially life-threatening autosomal recessive metabolic disorder caused by aldolase B deficiency. Despite its serious clinical consequences, hereditary fructose intolerance is frequently underrecognized due to its variable presentation, overlap with other metabolic and hepatic conditions, and the absence of routine screening protocols. This activity addresses the gap between current clinical practice and evidence-based standards by reviewing the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and dietary management of hereditary fructose intolerance. Participants are expected to gain improved diagnostic accuracy, enhanced ability to differentiate hereditary fructose intolerance from similar conditions, updated dietary management strategies, and strengthened interprofessional collaboration skills, with the ultimate goal of preventing serious complications and improving long-term patient-centered outcomes.
