Cutaneous tuberculosis (CTB) is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB), accounting for 1.5% to 3% of cases worldwide. CTB is primarily caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, though Mycobacterium bovis and bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) may also be responsible. CTB presents in various clinical forms, classified based on the mode of infection and host immune response, including exogenous infections, endogenous spread from a primary TB site, and hypersensitivity reactions (tuberculids). This course explores the complexities surrounding this dermatological phenomenon, including the various disease manifestations such as nodules, ulcers, plaques, abscesses, and verrucous lesions that often mimic inflammatory or neoplastic conditions, integration of evaluation findings for diagnosis, and selection of appropriate therapies. This activity for healthcare professionals is designed to enhance the learner’s competence in identifying CTB, performing the recommended evaluation, and implementing an appropriate interprofessional approach when managing this condition.
