Cystic Fibrosis Course Nine: Adolescent and Young Adult Healthcare in CF

The adolescent years bring a host of challenges for people with cystic fibrosis (CF), ranging from increasing autonomy, challenges with adherence to CF care regimens, evolving psychosocial needs, and preparation for eventual transfer to adult-focused health care. Clinicians working in CF care teams are often tasked with addressing these many developmental concerns in their care for adolescents with CF. This course will provide knowledge and practical strategies to deliver developmentally appropriate and holistic care ensuring that adolescents with CF are supported in their physical and psychosocial health needs. Through discussion of case studies, current guidelines, and patient-centered approaches, the modules explore important areas of adolescent care, including development, sexual and reproductive health, risk-taking behavior, and nutritional health. These modules will support the skills necessary for high-impact, developmentally attuned CF care across disciplines.
